February 5, 2017
Janet Lomason passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2017, surrounded by her daughters, the prayers of friends and an army of angels.
Janet was born September 4, 1941 to Louise and Edmund Schutzler. Blessed by their example of love, hard work and pragmatism, Janet’s life became a string of choices that turned into the richest of legacies. She is survived by some of the luckiest of people: Jennifer and Ryan Wejrowski (Isabell, Elyse), Jackie and Jason Horan (Rory, Dru) and Julie and Thaddeus DeForest (Kyle, Jillian). She is also survived by her brother, Bill Schutzler and his wife Gail (Megan, Lindsay and Derek).
Janet’s childhood years were spent on the family farm in Applegate, MI. She often spoke of her childhood in parable, since life is lessons of joy, perseverance and sacrifice.
Janet graduated from Cros-Lex High School in 1959 and went on to study at Michigan State University. She holds both a bachelors and master’s degree (education and home economics).
In 1981 Janet moved her daughters to Mount Pleasant. She took a job working for MSU Extension where she met some of her favorite people. How she loved her career of service; teaching and helping those in need! Home economics was the ideal career because she was paid to teach her passions: budgeting and healthy eating.
Outside of work Janet enjoyed gardening and cooking, but most of all, she loved the Lord and her circle of devoted Christian friends. Janet’s amazing girlfriends brought her much joy and companionship. She loved to go on walks with her friends, to prayer at church and out on Friday nights for dinner and games.
Janet also enjoyed volunteering. She was a founding member of the State Board for Barn Restoration, worked for Habitat for Humanity and volunteered at church helping families in need of financial guidance. She worked with Christmas Outreach, at Life Choices of Central Michigan and the soup kitchen.
When asked what she would want to be remembered for, she told us this:
1) for loving God
2) for being a good mother
No one could deny either of these things, her daughters, least of all.
Though Janet will be dearly missed, we will cherish the beautiful memories of the years we shared. We are the product of her love and sacrifice. May God hold her close until we see her again.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16th at Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, from 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church on February 17th at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Wally Hostetter officiating. A lunch will follow the services. The family suggests memorial contributions to Life Choices of Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
